  1. This a quick explanation of how to run ERS98:
  2. Read Setup.txt to read about setup
  3. Read about Features and what's new at the bottom of this page.

  5. Simply make the backups, add notes if you like, and add either 
  6. the 3Day or 7Day rotary backup to the Startup folder. By doing so, 
  7. there after on each startup, Auto backup will check the backup time
  8. and date, and will pop up if your backups are more than 22 hours old.
  9. There is an automatic 30 second time delay, so you can cancel the 
  10. backup if you wish, or you can bypass the 30 second delay by  
  11. clicking the "Backup Now" button.
  12. Click Options\Add other files to backups, there you can add 3 extra
  13.  
  14. files to the backup. Please don't add your daily notes to be backed up
  15. with ERS backups if you selected them to be restored with ERS.
  16. Select to add the Weekly backup to 3 Day or 7 Day and it will backup
  17. once every 8 days.
  18. Select to zip backups if you wish, saves on hard disk space but it takes
  19. longer to zip these files.

  21. You can select and set your own backup interval and number of 
  22. seconds to commence the backup after startup. Auto backup doesn't 
  23. use resources, and it will pop up only if your backup is 22 hours old.

  27. You can set auto backup interval as much as 72 hours, which
  28. will make the auto backup to backup once every three days instead
  29. of daily, making the 3Day spread to 9Day and the 7Day spread to 
  30. 21Day rotary backups.  
  31. Manually backup, "Vitals1", "Startup1" and system files backup 
  32. "BackupA" by clicking the proper buttons.
  33. Backup all the files in the Windows and Window\System directory
  34. if you wish.

  36. To restore from backups:

  38. Just remember the word "ERS".
  39.  
  40. Start or restart computer, when you see "Starting Windows 95",
  41. quickly press F8. Then select the "Command Prompt Only" 
  42. from the menu, don't select "Command Prompt in Safemode".

  44. Type ERS at the command prompt, then Type one of the ERS restore
  45. commands that will pop up on the screen. You will see the backup's 
  46. dates and your notes, allowing you to decide which backup you need 
  47. to restore from.

  49. Once the files have finished restoring, restart computer, now your 
  50. system is perfectly restored.

  52. If you upgrade to Windows 98, click Options\Update ERS for Win98.
  53. If you install ERS98 on clean installed Win98 then you don't need
  54. the update.

  56. NOTE: A free ERS scheduler will be found in the ERS98 directory
  57. for those who keep their computer on all the time. If you already have 
  58. a 3rd party scheduler running tasks, there is no need to run the ERS 
  59. scheduler, you can set it to run the ERS backup.

  61. When you have time, make an ERS bootdisk,  click Options\ Make 
  62. ERS Bootdisk.
  63. Print the restore section of this help file, and save it for a rainy day.

  66. Click any of the backup date\time stamps to view the files of 
  67. that backup.
